Gov’t chases outstanding land rent

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Lands, Physical Planning and Urbanization, John Rosso, on Tuesday September 12, announced the launch of the campaign, aimed squarely at companies and individuals that have failed to meet their obligations.

“The Department stands resolute against the neglect of annual land rent dues on state leases. This isn't merely about nearing debts of half a billion Kina; it's a profound reflection on the companies and individuals who have turned a blind eye to their commitments,” DPM Rosso explained.

Huge Task Ahead For Lands: Rosso

These were the opening remarks from the Minister responsible, John Rosso when giving report on the floor of Parliament since getting the portfolio in 2019.

“Faced with these challenges, myself and my newly appointed Secretary had a mammoth task confronting us to correct and fix a lot of these issues and reform the department. These issues cannot be fixed overnight, it takes persistence, patience and continuity.”

Motuan LOs encouraged to register ILG

A process that the department approves, the registration guarantees their lands will be secured and safeguarded for future investment or cultivation.

After years of waiting, the Kaha-namona Idaro Clan of Pari Village sealed the registration of its incorporated land group with the presentation of its ILG certificate by Lands Minister, Justin Tkatchenko.

With the new certificate, the clan can develop their land knowing that the certificate identifies them as legitimate owners.
