ENB outlines ICT action plan

It has a list of activities that need to be implemented in line with standards set by the Department of ICT.

ENB Deputy Provincial Administrator for Corporate Services, Marakan Uvano, made this known during the opening of the three-day New Guinea Islands ICT regional consultation yesterday.

“Our main activity that is currently underway in the province is the engagement of a consultant to create a website for the provincial government, the four districts and the 18-plus LLGs,” Uvano said.

More work needed in digital space

However, one key challenge is the adoption of cloud technology due to misunderstandings and concerns over encryption, data privacy, data protection, and cyber security standards.

The Department of Information and Communication Technology collaborated with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to host an immersive one-day training workshop to overcome adoption challenges and encourage leadership participation to key government agencies.

20 public servants inducted

The induction was facilitated by DPM in Port Moresby.

Twenty staff from DICT and DPM took the oath before the ICT department’s principal legal counsel before receiving their certificates.

The induction is part of the ICT department’s efforts to build a safe, secure and productive digital economy.

The department believes this starts with getting people’s mindset and organisational culture right.

Digital Tech In Agriculture Promoted

Minister for Information and Communications Technology, Timothy Masiu, revealed this during a discussion with the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations QU Dongyu in Dakar, Bangladesh, during the 36th United Nations FAO Asia Pacific Regional Conference this month. 
 

Certificates Attained In Cyber Security Training

The Australian High Commissioner, Jon Philp, presented the certificates Australian government being the enabling partner of the program. This course was made possible by an MOU between Australia-PNG Government partnerships, which was executed in 2018.

Department of Information and Communication Technology Secretary, Steven Matainaho said under the MoU for Cyber Security signed by the two governments almost five years ago, further assistance was given by the Australian government to operationalize the National Cyber Security Shelter project.

Masiu In Dubai For World Expo

Minister Masiu arrived in Dubai last weekend accompanied by Department Secretary, Steven Matainaho, NICTA CEO Kila Gulo-Vui, technical officers from the ICT ministerial sector and Foreign Affairs and International Trade and are scheduled for a lead of visits and events.
