Melanesia Basketball Cup: Day two results

The Pepsi PNG women’s side made it two from two with a 13 point win over New Caledonia.

The women’s results:

Fiji 76 - Solomon Islands 54

Papua New Guinea 61 - New Caledonia 48

It was the same for the Pepsi PNG men’s who were able to fight off a 29 point last quarter from New Caledonia to come out on top, and win their second consecutive game.

Fiji 70 - Solomon Islands 51

New Caledonia 80 - Papua New Guinea 87

Barras in control after day two

Resuming play this morning, the Barras were finally all bowled out for 311. Captain, Assad Vala was the standout finishing the innings unbeaten on 144.

With the ball in hand, the Barras ripped through the Namibian batting top order and left them reeling at 5/35 after 21 overs.

But Namibia’s tail-enders put up some resistance with Sarel Burger (52*) and Johannes Jonathan Smit (23) helping their side to reach triple figures.

The Barras eventually bowled out Namibia for a 146 with Lega Siaka taking the last wicket. This gave the Barras a lead of 165.
