Darren Lockyer

Lockyer’s visit not taken kindly

Lockyer, whose name is synonymous with Australian rugby league, is also attached with an exploration and energy firm that is currently eyeing coal production in PNG.

The company is Mayur Resources Ltd where Lockyer heads its business affairs division.

Among those concerned Papua New Guineans was environmentalist and Northern Governor, Gary Juffa.

“This is a grave insult to PNG but most won’t realise it,” Juffa commented under an earlier article by Loop PNG.

Lockyer speaks highly of young PNG Kumuls

PNG born winger Coates is currently training with the Brisbane Broncos while Simbu man Olam is creating quite a storm with his Melbourne club.

Rugby league legend and Australian television commentator, Darren Lockyer, spoke of the huge potential of the young PNG Kumuls on Friday during a briefing of the Eastern Highlands Super 8 Rugby League tournament.

“We have high hopes for Xavier, he’s a wonderful athlete,” said Lockyer.

Lockyer: Walters decision will boost Maroons

Walters is a selector as well as a coach of the Maroons side and said in a statement that the "perception of my impartiality" was one of the reasons why he decided to remove himself from a club role.

Walters attended the launch of the 2018 Holden State of Origin Series in Melbourne on Tuesday where he said: "the level of interest at the media conference reinforced how privileged I am to be the head coach of a Maroons team which means so much to the people of Queensland."

Why Mal Meninga and Darren Lockyer should be next Immortals

Look at their longevity in the game and what they achieved. They were true greats worthy of being named in the company of the eight Immortals.

Mal went on a record-breaking four Kangaroo tours and was dominant at that level. He was one of the original Maroons in Origin and was front and centre of their success for 15 years.

Then you consider what he did for the Canberra Raiders in establishing that club as a powerhouse of the late 1980s right through to the mid-1990s.
