Provincial works responsible: Governor

K500,000 was allocated by the provincial government in 2019 to construct a classroom for Huonville Primay School. To date, a classroom is yet to be built despite payment being made to the contractor.

Those responsible are yet to be held accountable for the misappropriation of the K500,000 that was made available by Governor Saonu to assist with Huonville’s classroom issues.

Instead of sending the money to the school’s account, the provincial works division held on to it and appointed a contractor of their choice.

Main court complex construction to start

The Chief Justice gave an update on the progress of the Court complex construction which he is hoping will be completed before the APEC meet in November 2018.

Sir Salamo said he will be making a submission to the government to shorten the construction period because the government budget projection is that the complex will be completed around 2020.

“We are ready to move into construction in March and a small ground breaking will take place,” he said.

This Court complex is one of the major impact projects identified by the government that will cost K680 million.

Construction on APEC House to begin next year

Minister for Sports, National Events, and APEC, Justin Tkatchenko, says work on reclamation, foundations, and footing is expected to be completed by February and for the contractor to begin work.

What is said to be an iconic landmark, APEC House complements the Ela Beach front developments.

This will include the extension of the beach front by a 100 metres out, and a four lane highway to join the Paga Ring Road, complementing the new APEC House replacing the old Sea Park lookout.
