Kwa: Environment conservation must include provincial engagement

PNG Constitutional and Law Reform Commission Secretary, Dr Eric Kwa, says engaging government at the provincial, district and Local Level Government (LLG) is vital in terms of funding.

Kwa said during the consultation workshop on PAs this week that the development, management and the monitoring of environmental policies and laws must be done at the provincial level.

Gembogl Hydro Power Project receives environment permit

The project involves the construction of a 6 megawatts (MW) hydro power facility on the upper reaches of the Simbu River, and aims to supply power to the PNG Power Limited grid through the power purchase agreement.

The project has a very strong support from the Simbu Provincial Government, the Kundiawa-Gembogl District and landowners.

The developer, AG Investment Limited has significant experience in PNG and overseas in developing construction and hydro power projects.

The application was submitted to CEPA in March this year.
