Electricity sector becoming competitive

This dramatic change is now coming under the scrutiny of the Independent Competition and Consumer Commission to ensure electricity licensees are compliant with existing regulations.

Acting CEO of the ICCC, Avi Hubert, said this today when launching the inaugural Safety and Technical Management Plan (STMP) workshop in Port Moresby.

As of 2015, seven electricity licences have been issued to seven entities with PNG Power being the dominant player.

The entries will then be open to public voting through liking the submission they best prefer. The winner will be selected based on the most popular entry.

PNG audience takes control of TVWAN

Ms Manu, of Port Moresby, was the lucky winner of TVWAN’s viewer survey competition, a countrywide survey of Digicel Play viewers’ favourites.

“I received an email from TVWAN asking me about my favourite shows and the next thing I knew I had a brand-new flatscreen Samsung TV to watch Digicel Play on,” she laughs.

The survey asked viewers to rate their favourite shows and Digicel Play channels.

Digicel Play Head of Marketing Jack Bourke says the service is serious about listening to its customers.

Design competition attracts students

The inaugural Nippon Paint Young Designer Award (NPYDA) 2015 is for PNG and Unitech’s architectural students from year three up are invited to participate, says South Pacific Paint Sales and marketing manager Sam Webb.

“The winners will be awarded with recognition from Nippon Paint for their unique and conceptual designs and will also receive an array of prizes,” Webb said when launching the program at the Building and Architecture Department at Unitech.

The theme for this year’s competition was “Design with Heart: For a Sustainable Future: With People in Mind”.

Chance for young PNG designers

The competition will be launched in Lae (Unitech) next Wednesday and will run until September 30.

South Pacific Paint operations manager Andrew Clarke said the company will launch the award for the first time in Papua New Guinea.

“This is a competition that Nippon Paints runs throughout Asia and this year PNG will be included,” Clarke said.

The award offers an opportunity for students in Diploma year three and onwards to show, learn and connect with professionals in architecture.
