Climate change officer participates in US leadership program

Taera is a projects officer with the Climate Change and Development Authority. Her role is to provide research, analysis, technical advice and policy development on the identified priority areas for climate change adaptation in PNG.

The program Taera will join is titled “Our Planet - Climate Change and Renewable Energy”, and runs from January 23 through February 10 in the United States. 

PNG prepares for Green Climate Fund

Over 100 participants from government and non-governmental organisations and agencies are involved in the workshop, hosted by the Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA).

GCFs’ visit to PNG is to facilitate the readiness and preparatory stage for the purposes of accessing climate finance.

GCF was established to assist developing countries finance their mitigation and adaptation programs.

The signing of the Privileges and Immunities Agreement paved the way for officials from GCF to enter PNG and work with the government.

Yamuna: PNG needs to develop a green economy

A green economy aims at reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities, and that aims for sustainable development without degrading the environment.

Newly appointed acting managing director of Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA), Ruel Yamuna said CCDA must be the vehicle for PNG’s green economy by creating a pathway for developing a carbon-neutral economy.

These include introducing clean energy like generating solar energy, wind energy and hydropower and using bio fuel.
