Station suspends satellite TV arm

PNG’s rural Direct to Home (DTH) customers will be affected unfortunately, whilst merger and partnership discussions are underway to expand and accommodate rural DTH customers in the future.

The TV station says they believe there is an alternate solution for the sake of the nation.

Already the latest IPTV provider in PNG, Click TV says it will place more emphasis on growing its substantial commercial customer base, which includes the new Loloata Island, Stanley Hotel and Hilton Port Moresby.

News station closes

This closure of PNG TV News is part of a product repositioning exercise that recognises the dramatic change in the markets’ behaviour in as far as news is concerned.

PNG TVs’ Managing Director, Richard Broadbridge, attributes this change to the dynamic and exponential growth of the Information Communication Technology platform.

“Consumers now have greater freedom and choice on how they get their news and information in general,” said Broadbridge.

“Social media is now a valid source of news that is available around the clock.”

A variety of broadcasting services for PNG consumers

“When people are given the choice, they select which one they want to go based on quality of service and hopefully, the prices will all come down, which is ultimately what the consumers of this country need.”

This was said by National Information & Communications Technology Authority CEO, Charles Punaha, during the Papua New Guinea broadcaster, Click Pacific’s, launch of their new satellite hub in Rainbow, Port Moresby, with both O3b data and C-band Television up-linking technology.

Click-TV to partner PNG Fashion Week

The one year old television station in PNG teamed up with the committee only last week, for a three year contract.

Announcing the partnership yesterday at the newly built Stanley Hotel and Suites, Ruth Kekedo of Click TV said this move is to promote PNG culture.

“This is a wonderful synergy to provide a good platform for PNG to promote our culture and that’s one thing that Click- TV embraces – the promotion of PNG culture,” Kekedo said.
