Yemen war: Emergency in Sanaa as cholera kills scores

Hospitals in the city, which is controlled by Houthi rebels, are crowded with cholera patients.

The Red Cross says the number of suspected cases in the country has tripled in a week to more than 8,500.

Yemen has been ravaged by hunger and civil war, allowing disease to spread rapidly.

Two-thirds of the population do not have access to safe drinking water, according to the UN.

Hurricane Matthew stirs fear of cholera in Haiti

Since the hurricane pounded Haiti last week, there has been an uptick of the dangerous disease, according to Stephane De Rengerves, senior executive liaison officer with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

"We don't have official reports yet, but reports from the field show an increase of cases," De Rengerves said.

​Cholera fear in world’s biggest refugee camp

Seven people have died in Dadaab, in northern Kenya near the border with Somalia, since the outbreak was declared in November, the medical charity Doctors Without Borders, or MSF, said in a statement.

In the last three weeks, more than 300 patients have been admitted to treatment centers, and 30% of those patients were children under 12, according to MSF.

UN: 29 die in South Sudan cholera outbreak as cases rise

Cholera had sickened 484 people by the end of June and the number of cases continues to rise in the nation's capital of Juba, according to UNICEF.

Children under 5 comprise 13 percent of the cases, UNICEF said, adding that funding is needed as the agency has been using its flexible internal resources to meet critical needs.

In addition to Juba, cholera cases have also been reported in Bor, Jonglei state, as well as Torit in the state of Eastern Equatoria.
