Cancer foundation to host cancer awareness workshops

The free Pinktober workshops will be held at the Royal Papua Yacht Club in Port Moresby on Oct 10 and the 17th.  

The workshop aim was to reduce the threat and impact of cancer through education and prevention programs.

The workshops will be conducted by a PNGCF health educator, explaining what cancer is, how to recognise early signs and symptoms and how you can protect yourself from the disease.

National registry vital for cancer monitoring

The PNG Cancer Foundation (PNGCF) is hoping that a cancer registry is set up soon as it will provide an outline of how the country is performing as far as cancer is concern.

The foundation depends on statistics it collects from baseline surveys and screening it conducts during its provincial awareness and free cancer screening.

PNGCF chief executive officer Dadi Toka Jnr says without a cancer registry it is very difficult to see how effective their educational programs are doing in terms of cancer prevention.

Thousands take part in Globe-a-thon campaign

More than a thousand both young and old joined the 4th globe-a-thon which featured a walk organised by the Pacific International Hospital this morning.

The walk, started at 8am in front of the PIH gate at 3 mile, following the freeway along Taurama road, heading to the 4 mile round-a-bout and back, with participants carrying positive messages on placards.

The variety of participants included men and women of the general public, representatives from the business and corporate sector, and government, including the wife of Prime Minister Linda Babao.

Teacher serenaded by students, dies after cancer battle

Ben Ellis, who taught Latin and Bible studies at Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, died Friday, said Nate Morrow, the school's headmaster.

A few days ago, 400 students from the school showed up outside his home to sing songs of worship when he could no longer teach.
