Callan Services

Callan Services attend Gymbad workshop

The Network of Callan Services is the largest provider of services to children and adults with disabilities in Papua New Guinea with a particular focus on inclusive education and training.

The Inclusive GYMBAD 2023 Workshop brought together representatives from NOPS and Callan Services who joined GYMBAD staff and coaches for what had been an icebreaker for most of the participants.

Eyesight, hearing tests conducted

More than 300 people have had their hearing and eyesight tested by Callan Services under a disability assessment pilot program through the PNG-Australia Partnership supported Kokoda Initiative Program.

Screenings were carried out in communities, schools and health centres in Sogeri and Mt Koiari in Central Province. The screening was overseen by Callan Services program manager, Peter Sindu, and ear and eye trainer, Br Desmond Taboeya.

European organisation supports Callan Services with K300,000

This is to improve the current state of infrastructure at the centre.

With the funding, two projects will be worked on: A double classroom at K35,000 and fencing around the service centre.

“The project will improve the overall learning centre environment for the students in the long run,” says coordinator for Callan Services, Blaise Semoso.

Callan Services launches its first website

The launching was done by the assistant to the Acting Deputy Secretary Tony Mong on Monday.

Callan Services was established by the Christian Brothers of PNG in 1991 and over the past two decades has led the way in building services for people with disabilities.

The website will embrace the services vision to improve communication between health care and education resources centers and to improve levels of access to vital and important information for people living with disability in areas in PNG lacking awareness and information.
