BSP makes K189 profit for Quarter 3

 

This is up 12 per cent from the same period in 2016.

Despite a slight drop in Total Income and slender increase in total costs during the quarter which affected Net Profit after Tax, it still remains consistent with year on year results showing improvements.

Fleming said the results indicate that the BSP is on track to surpass profit estimates for 2017.

BSP’s 3rd Quarter Results once again reveal another strong performance by the Banking Group in 2017.

Govt supports BSP to roll out SME lending system

The software system is a product of cooperation between the Government, BSP and the World Bank through the International Finance Corporation.

Minister for Commerce and Industry, Wera Mori, presented the cheque to BSP CEO, Robin Fleming, today.

Minister Mori, said the PNG SME access to finance project through the ‘LendFast’ system, has been successful given the good response to the facility by the SME sector.

He commended BSP for the implementation of the system, providing loans to SME’s which in turn will boost the economy.

Aopi retires from BSP board

Aopi CBE has decided to retire as a Director of BSP.

He has served as a Board Member since the amalgamation of BSP and PNGBC in 2002.

Aopi also served as a member of the Board of Audit and Risk Committees as well as most recently the Chairman of the Board’s Remuneration & Nomination Committee.

Chairman of Board Sir Kostas Constantinou extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to Aopi on behalf of the Shareholders and his fellow Directors for his many years of dedicated service to BSP.

Financial literacy an asset for the future

Over 400 Students at Mt Diamond Secondary School took part in Bank South Pacific’s (BSP) Banking Education and Financial Literacy Training that was conducted in August.

The training included Budgeting and Money management, but also included information on BSP Products and services and how it can assist customers in managing their money. BSP’s Waigani Banking Centre further assisted students to open Sumatin accounts.

Births houses almost ready for villages

The birth houses are located in Tukwaukwa and Obweria villages respectively on Losuia in Kiriwina Island.

The project is undertaken by the Bank South Pacific as part of its 2017 community projects focus.

The projects were selected when a request was made to repair one of the buildings that had been damaged by a fallen coconut tree leaving part of the rooms exposed to weather.

BSP staff assisted in the clean-up of the site, general maintenance and repainting walls; while a contractor was sourced to complete other renovations.

​Morata boasts upgraded clinic

The clinic was officially handed over to the Health Department and residing community following renovations sponsored by Bank South Pacific.

The refurbished clinic includes a new water tank, a refrigerator for vaccines and beddings and chairs for the wards.

Morata Clinical Manager, Sister Helen Kaii, thanked BSP saying the overhaul will motivate clinicians to perform their role in the community.

Nomination fees to be paid at BSP bank

Concerned returning officers said no cash will be taken in at nominating offices for candidates to file their nominations.

Returning Officer for Rigo, Virgil Waisa said these are strict instructions coming from the Electoral Commission since the issuing of writs last Thursday.

All monies should be deposited into the Electoral Commission Trust Account at BSP Boroko branch: Account number 1000489658.

“We will only accept BSP deposit slips showing the amount paid in full which we will keep for record for the Electoral Commission,” Waisa said.

Angoram man guilty of stealing from bank

Mike Mack of Angoram in the East Sepik Province was sentenced to two years in prison however that sentence was suspended because he repaid all those monies.

Mack was a call centre agent with BSP retail in Port Moresby, when he accessed two accounts belonging to a John Warang and transferred the monies.

He committed the crime between February 18 and March 6, 2016 by accessing the accounts using the account holder’s mobile banking personal details.

He got a sim replacement from Digicel, and used Warang’s mobile numbers to make the transactions via mobile banking.
