BSP School Kriket Program

BSP Liklik Cricket ends Term 3 competition

Every school year Liklik kriket program is rolled out to schools targeting students under 13 and under 15 years of age. It introduces them to the basic skills and knowledge of cricket.

About 160 young boys and girls representing four schools - Bavaroko Primary, Ted Diro Primary, Hagara Primary and New Generation Christian Academy – converged at the Bisini cricket pitch on Wednesday this week to display their cricket talent under the BSP Liklik Kriket program.

School Kriket Program launched

This year marks the 14th year of BSP and CPNG partnership in hosting the program that involves elementary, primary and secondary schools in the country.

BSP Mamose Area Manager, Barry Namongo said sport is an important part of children and young people’s education, not only for their physical fitness, but to create a sense of belonging and wellbeing to a community.

Everyday People: Katenalaki Singi

At 18, I am a product of the BSP School Kriket Program where I began my cricket journey which has seen me make the PIH Under 19 Cricket PNG team for the 2022 World Cup.

Playing since I was 11, I joined my local cricket club back in Alotau.

I enjoyed it so much I was willing to leave my home province to represent Papua New Guinea.

Hailing from Milne Bay, this will be my first time leaving the country. It’s a good feeling but I’m also a little nervous, understandably.

Over 60,000 students trained

These were the numbers from the recently concluded Term 1 of the BSP School Kriket Program. Term 2 is already underway.

In its 10th year, the BSP School Kriket Program has attracted schools from Central, Oro, Milne Bay, Morobe, Madang, Western Highlands, Eastern Highlands, Jiwaka and West New Britain. The aim behind the initiative is simple - teach as many kids as possible the basics of cricket and hone talent for the national teams.
