The Disney remake of the 1994 classic has achieved the feat less than three weeks after being released in cinemas.

The movie, which features the voices of Beyonce and Donald Glover, joins Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel and Aladdin in Disney's $1bn class of 2019.

As reported by Variety, director Jon Favreau's version is already the fifth-biggest global release of of the year.

In North America, it has racked up sales of around $361m (£267m) and $638m (£324m) overseas, with cinema-goers in China and Brazil leading the way.

After just 10 days of release, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum has become the highest grossing film in the action series.

Parabellum has grossed $181 million at the global box office to date, surpassing John Wick: Chapter 2's $171.5 million. The original John Wick ended its 2014 run with $88.7 million worldwide.

More than 90% of the value of all tickets sold in UK cinemas last weekend was for Avengers: Endgame.

Within five days it had become the fastest film to break the $1bn sales barrier worldwide.

But more significantly, it is the latest evidence that Walt Disney is now the world's biggest box-office player.

Of the 10 films with the biggest worldwide sales in their opening weekend, Disney has distributed five.

Variety magazine reported that Disney took one fifth of all global box office takings in 2018.

So it can now safely be said that Crazy Rich Asians has defied expectations, soaring to the top of the box office this weekend with a $34 million domestic haul over five days and handily earning back its $30 million production budget. Estimates are projecting an eventual domestic take of more than $100 million.

The film pulled in $201.8 million domestically for Walt Disney Co. DIS, -0.52%  over the course of its three-day Friday to Sunday opening weekend. That makes “Black Panther” the highest-ever February release, beating out 2016’s “Deadpool,” and places it in fifth all time after another Marvel title “The Avengers,” Universal Pictures’s CMCSA, -0.80%  “Jurassic World,” and Disney’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

Johnson's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was released in New Zealand on Boxing Day 2017 and in its first six days knocked Star Wars off its perch at the top of the New Zealand box office.

Johnson posted a video to Instagram thanking his fans in New Zealand and Australia, where the film also topped the box office a week after its release.

"Thank you so, so much for the Jumanji love," he said in the clip.

The animation –​ featuring the voice talents of Idris Elba, Ginnifer Goodwin and Shakira –​ fought off competition from London Has Fallen, which is new at 2 with $21.7m.

Elsewhere, last week's number one Deadpool drops down to 3 with $16.4m and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is at 4 with $7.6m.​

Gods of Egypt slides to 5 with $5m, Risen is at 6 with $3.8m and Kung Fu Panda 3 is at 7 with $3.5m.

Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio's ​The Revenant rises to 8 with $3.3m, and Eddie the Eagle is at 9 with $3.1m​. ​Finally, The Witch rounds out the top ten with $2.5m.​

The final chapter in the "Hunger Games" saga earned a hefty $52 million, bringing its domestic total to $198.5 million. Disney and Pixar's animated family film "The Good Dinosaur" took second place with a solid $39.2 million.

The PG-rated film lost the top spot to "Straight Outta Compton," which is still playing in over 3,000 theaters, but flew past its modest $3.5 million budget on a relatively limited number of screens.

Other new releases didn't fare so well. Warner Bros.' electronic dance music drama movie "We Are Your Friends" bombed with only $1.8 million, making it one of the worst openings of all time for a film in wide release. Starring Zac Efron, "We Are Your Friends" cost a modest $6 million to produce, but Warner Bros. only spent $2 million to acquire it.

The Disney and Marvel superhero pic brought in $24.8 million over the weekend, bringing its domestic total to $106.1 million according to Rentrak estimates Sunday.

"Pixels," meanwhile, just barely missed first place with a $24 million debut. While studios always hope for the bragging rights of a No. 1 debut, the real issue here is whether or not the Adam Sandler end of the world comedy will make up its $88 million production budget.
