Bougainville writs returned

Bougainville House of Representatives Speaker, Simon Pentanu, said the writs were issued on June 17th and despite challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone worked together to ensure the elections were held before the end of the year.

“Today I am pleased to have the writs returned to me; the writs to 33 single member constituencies, three regional constituencies for the women and three regional constituencies for former combatants. All these add up to 39 writs. The writ for the presidential seat is the 40th writ.

B’ville affirms commitment to human rights

The existing Parliamentary Committee on Gender, Peace and Security will now be expanded to become the Parliamentary Committee on Gender Equality and Human Rights.

Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Committee, Francesca Semoso, said with human rights underpinning the existing thematic areas of the committee, it was a logical choice to see its mandate expanded and portfolio broadened.

Bougainville women are proud women: Momis

ABG President Dr John Momis made this statement in commemoration of International Women’s Day.

“The traditional role of women in most parts of Bougainville has always been custodians of the land, providing a safety net to society and keepers of the peace, this role has not changed; women still play a vital role in contemporary Bougainville today,” Momis said.

“I am also proud to say today that a new role that Bougainville women have assumed is one that has redefined their roles in Bougainville and that is of peace maker.”

Hagohohe MP in AROB sees tourism potential

This message is from the Member for Hagogohe Constituency in the Autonomous Bougainville Government Robert Hamal Sawa.

Speaking to Loop PNG in Buka the member said tourism has the potential of drawing in millions into the region apart from mining and cash crops.

“As a three term member of parliament, I have realised tourism has a real potential for development and for income generation,” Sawa said.
