Border Development Authority

Border Development Authority to be abolished

This intention was made known during a recent trip by a Government delegation to Wutung to inspect PNG’s border facilities, which have been left idle after being completed in 2014.

Minister Kevin Isifu said: “I know there is a lot of failure by the Border Development Authority in the past, and as the minster responsible, I have made the decision to abolish Border Development Authority and to bring back the responsibility under my Ministry so that we can effectively manage the border.”

Late Konga’s tribesmen issue 14-day notice

The late Fred Aura Konga’s immediate relatives and tribesmen issued the notice yesterday at Rolgump Village in the Anglimp South Waghi Electorate of Jiwaka Province.

The community leaders said Late Konga was killed in cold blood in Port Moresby on August 23rd however, for a month, they did not receive any favourable response from the police commissioner, who promised to investigate the killing.

The leaders, in their verbal notice, are now calling on the concerned authorities to fast track the investigation within 14 days.

Investigations ongoing for Konga case

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent, Ben Turi told Loop PNG that the Criminal Investigation Division is still working on it, and more information is still needed.

Turi said this is not an easy case, adding that obviously, people are hiding their tracks.

He said police are slowly recovering information and should be able to produce a full investigative report on Mr Konga’s shooting in the weeks ahead.

Mr. Konga’s shooting was confirmed by police as an execution style shooting.

Konga’s death shocking

At his funeral on Thursday (Sept 7) at Romunga Village, Anglimp, Jiwaka Province, eldest son, Wellington, said his father’s life was stolen from the family.

“He didn’t die a slow, peaceful death,” said Wellington.

“He was taken in the middle of the road, on a freeway, a public highway.

“His life was robbed.”

The CEO of the Independent Consumer & Competition Commission (ICCC), Paulus Ain, also shared similar sentiments.

“He wasn’t even sick and we have no tribal enemies,” said Ain.

“We had no issues with anyone.”
