Eleven people were injured, with seven transported to the hospital in unknown condition, Berkeley Police spokesman Byron White told CNN.

Badly rotted beams identified in deadly balcony collapse

The city Building and Safety Division issued a summary of initial findings from the investigation of the fatal balcony failure a week ago. Five of the students who died were from Ireland.

The inspectors noted that joists underlying the concrete balcony were extensively rotted at the place where the structure broke off, flinging 13 young adults five stories down to the street.

7 students who survived balcony collapse remain hospitalized

All of the students face long physical and mental recoveries, and they probably won't be returning to Ireland soon, said the Rev. Aidan McAleenan of St. Columba Catholic Church in Oakland.

The injured are in three area hospitals. They are Hannah Waters, Aoife Beary, Clodagh Cogley, Niall Murray, Seán Fahey, Jack Halpin and Conor Flynn, according to the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Their ages were not immediately available.
