K40,000 for Battle of the Bands

Giving this event a boost, Mintt PNG presented a cheque of K40,000 to the organisers.

The Battle of the Bands 2018 season started off with over 200 bands.

The final 20 bands will now go head to head in the music ring on Saturday, June 9th, for a chance to win cash prizes up to K10,000.

The battle started with a big bang and the K40,000 from Mintt PNG yesterday will ensure it ends on a high note.

The elimination round is expected to be a huge event, unearthing raw musical talents from some of Port Moresby’s finest musicians.

Live auditions at Sir John Guise today

Over forty bands are auditioning today to secure a spot in the street’s battle of the bands – considered to be Port Moresby’s biggest musical festival.

This battle of the band is to unearth latest musical sensation from PNG and create careers for the most talented musicians in the country.

The difference though is that the performances are open to the public.

The audition today will be hosted by POM City markets – another local platform collaborating to create a general purpose city market every second Saturday of the month.

Battle of the bands feedback

But with its popularity also comes the need to polish up on certain areas.

Some of these observations were shared by Julius Pano, a musician and keen observer of the competition.

On top of Pano’s list is the need for feedback from judges.

“Judges should spend at least five minutes with eliminated bands to go over why they are eliminated, what the band’s strengths are and where they should improve on.”

He said as it is now, the bands eliminated are dropped from the competition without a clarity on the judges’ decision.

Four bands to clash at finals

Dust Kalas had accepted the bigger light from its usual outdoor pub environment, securing in the decider event.

M Bloods, is a group of young men, fearless, fighting for their spot against long-time experienced musicians.

Bloodlines practically stand out. If it’s not for their years of experience, it’s definitely the only group with a saxophone and mouth organ instruments.

Black Kattle is also a group of young men with a fair share of experience in the music scene.
