1RPIR holds Communications training

The training practical carried out today is part and parcel of the battalion preparing for their security operations come the main leaders week for APEC this November.

The communication display for senior officers was part of the culmination of a weeklong Command, Control, Communications and Coordination or C4 training.

The exercise consisted of three posts set up around the barracks, with one main communication center coordinating communication drills over the radio.

APEC security ready

Chief Kambo made this remarks after the swift actions of the JSTF members to recover a stolen motor vehicle in Gerehu in the National Capital District.

The vehicle was stolen at Gordons 5 on the night of Friday 9th March and recovered on Sunday the 11th.

He further added that there are criminal syndicates operating in the city and the JSTF will be dealing with them as well.

Meantime, the combined effort to provide a safe and secure city for the APEC meetings is being enforced by Police, PNG Defence Force, PNG Correctional Services personnel. 

Security paramount for APEC: Tkatchenko

The 21 Heads of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member states, including superpowers presidents of United States, Russia and China will be in Port Moresby for the summit.

 Minister for Sports, National Events and APEC, Justin Tkatchenko said, security is a crucial part and the PNG Government is not taking it lightly.

“Defence and border security is a major concern for some of the huge countries like America, China and Russia.

“We have been working closely with the Australian Government and their defence force for over two years now.

PM welcomes senior appointments

PM O’Neill said the appointment of Deputy Commissioners Jim Andrews (Operations), Raphael Huafolo (Administration) and Alan Scott (Reform, Training and APEC) will provide a substantial boost to raising the capacity of the police service.

“We are drawing on the demonstrated experience and capabilities of Deputy Commissioners Andrews and Huafolo to enhance stability and discipline,” the Prime Minister said.

“We further welcome the appointment of Alan Scott who brings with him international experience and respect from personnel in the RPNGC.
