Getaway Vehicle Involved in Accident

Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr said five suspects had held up occupants of a fifth element just outside the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium at around 4:30 pm and they made their getaway towards China Town and onto the backroad where they met their fate at Bumayong market.

Mr Wagambie said the incident was reported to a police patrol unit twenty minutes later by the victim. The patrol unit later alerted the Law police.

Two charged for armed robberies in Morobe

Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr said the two men were dressed in police uniforms with a fake search warrant held up the shop owned by Indians and stole over K15,000 in cash.

The two men were apprehended at West Taraka in Lae following a drinking spree two days later.

Wagambie said the Police Intelligence Unit managed to track the suspects apprehending 15 suspects with the two charged.

They had escaped in a Land Cruiser to Lae where police were tipped off and detained the two men.

Lae police commander Wagambie Jnr not shaken by criticism

"Criticisms and comments from anyone will not sway me or shaken me to perform my duties. I only respond to my Commissioner and that is Gari Baki, through the office of my Divisional Commander of Northern Peter Guinness and the two Deputy Commissioners.

"They are my bosses and I listen to them and nobody else," he said yesterday.

He  said this in response to media reports of his removal by Works and Implementation Minister Francis Awesa during the funeral service of slain Unitech student Graham Romarong in Mendi over the weekend.

Baki commends Wagambie Jnr’s efforts in Lae

Baki has commended Wagambie Jnr for an excellent job in maintaining peace, law and order and security in Lae, especially at the University of Technology campus.

Commissioner Baki said the call by Works and Implementation Minister Francis Awesa to have Chief Superintendent Wagambie Junior removed is insensitive, irresponsible and uncalled for. 

He said Wagambie acted very responsibly and professionally throughout the student unrest and should in fact be commended and not ridiculed.

Wagambie issues warning to Lae institutions

Lae metropolitan police commander Anthony Wagambie Junior made the remark late this afternoon after receiving word that certain Lae institutions plan on marching to the Eriku Oval for the awareness.

He adds that the police-approved event comes with set restrictions, one of which that all Unitech students will be transported to the oval under police escort, then back.

Another restriction is that only student leaders will conduct awareness and no one else will be allowed to address the crowd.

Fatal traffic accident occurs at Salamanda in Lae

The driver of a five door a hired vehicle was driving at high speed, while under the influence of alcohol when he ran off the road.

The car crashed into two Bugandi Seconday Grade 11 students at about between 9.30am and 10am.

The two students, one male and a female were walking on the foot path at the time of the incident.

Lae police needs support says Wagambie Jnr

Lae Metropolitan Police Commander Anthony Wagambie Junior tells PNG Loop that because of the large population and the lack of manpower and logistics incidences occur seven days a week.

He says despite the challenges police have been working well to contain the law and order issue to ensure that citizens of Lae can enjoy freedom of movement in a peaceful environment.

Wagambie Jnr outlined the need for sector patrols in the city which will be a vital unit that will be used in combating and preventing crimes.

Facebook post put Lae police on the trail

The post by a user at the PNG Kona Market page showed a picture of what the user alleged were police uniforms sold openly at a certain trading store.

When contacted about this post  Lae’s Metropolitan Police Commander Anthony Wagambie Junior says that he was not aware of this but says that uniforms are made to order.

He further added that the picture does not look like the showroom of the store but rather the room where customers go to pick up orders.

Weapons recovered from suspects home in Lae

Lae Metropolitan Police Commander Anthony Wagambie tells PNG Loop that the suspect was apprehended for breaching his bail condition by not appearing in court for the decision of his court case.

 Wagambie says that he had a warrant of arrest issued by the Lae District court. He was also wanted with regards to other serious crimes.

 Police discovered two factory made pistols. One a .38 revolver and the other a 9mm semi- automatic glock.

Investigators found that the glock was stolen from its licensed holder during an armed robbery at a major business house in Lae.
