Criminal shot dead, others wounded by Police

The exchange resulted in a criminal shot dead and several others wounded with many more believed to be wounded and on the run after rolling off the mountain tops of West Taraka where they had been camping.

Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jnr confirmed the shoot-out adding that police has acted on intelligence that the gang linked to the Lae International Hotel, Pelgens Supermarket and several major robberies had been camping there.

Wagambie said the syndicate had received a big blow after police busted their hideout with casualties as a result.

Lae Police arrest fraudsters

According to Lae Police boss, Anthony Wagambie Jnr, the three men have been carrying out their activities for more than five years.

He said they used company cheques to either do large orders from wholesale shops or stationary

He added that they also used company cheques to do Pay Cash cheques and withdraw money from the bank without the company management’s consent.

Lae Police detain three suspects over murder of Unitech student

Graham Romanong a first year Unitech student from Southern Highlands Province was killed inside his room at the Taraka Campus.

“The three suspects have been detained in the (Lae) Police cells and Police CID have commenced process of Court files for formal arrest,” Lae Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jnr said.

Police this morning stopped five PMV bus loads of Enga students along the Markham Highway at Nine- Mile while they were trying to travel by road to Enga Province.

Police will maintain public safety in Lae

Provincial Police Commander for Lae, Anthony Wagambie Jnr has assured the people of Lae that police will be continuing normal operations and all suburban stations from Three-Mile to West Taraka and Tent City will be open for business.

Wagambie Jnr said police will be there to maintain public safety for all citizens, both local and foreigners in Lae.

He says vigilance will be on any opportunist who tries to disrupt, harm others or properties by taking advantage of the situation. Lae police will remain neutral and carry out their duties in protecting life and property.
