Angau General Hospital

New units operational at ANGAU

The facilities are part of the new infrastructure built under the hospital’s redevelopment, supported by the Papua New Guinea-Australia Partnership.

The new Waste Management Facility will lift the standard of operations and enable a safer, more hygienic process for waste removal and processing.

Better layout, process improvements and handling of hospital waste means a safer working environment for staff, and better outcomes for patients.

ANGAU upgrade on schedule

National Planning and Monitoring Minister Richard Maru, the Minister for Health and HIV/AIDS, Sir Puka Temu and the Australian High Commissioner, Bruce Davis, visited Lae recently to review the strong progress that is being made to redevelop ANGAU.

Tribe mourns teacher’s death

The deceased is Julie Tokam, wife of the former police and correctional services commissioner Henry Tokam.

Julie passed on at the Angau Memorial Hospital (Lae) last week after an illness.

Her body was taken in a convoy to Wandi village, 5km west of Kundiawa, on Sunday.

Thousands of mourners from within the district and the neighbouring Jiwaka Province have arrived in Wandi since Monday to pay their last respect.

Late Julie was laid to rest yesterday while the Narku tribe will host a feast to commemorate her death later this week.

Infant body found outside hospital

When police arrived at the burial scene, the infant was found to be buried in a shallow grave outside the hospital next to the residential area close to the roundabout leading to town.

Lae Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jnr says police is continuing their investigations.

Wagambie is also appealing to the general public with any information to come forward to police so that the person responsible can be held accountable.
