'Extraordinary level in Doha'

Djokovic brought world No 1 Murray's 28-match winning streak to an end on Saturday to retain his Doha title in a three-set thriller.

The Serb star won 6-3 5-7 6-4 in a high-quality, action-packed match between the two best players in the world lasting almost three hours.

It was Djokovic's 25th career victory over Murray and he laid down an early-season marker against his great British rival, before the Australian Open later this month.

Murray passes Melzer test

Gerald, the younger brother of former world No 8 Jurgen, played his part by handing the world No 1 a serious workout in two hours and 23 minutes.

A passive Murray dropped serve twice in the opening set and world No 68 Melzer saved eight set points with some brave hitting before the Briton took the opener during an intense tie-break.

He then got the break in the seventh game of the second set but failed to claim victory when serving at 5-4 as the 26-year-old left-hander Melzer forced a break of his own.

Murray and Farah knighted

Australian Open: Andy Murray to play semi-final

The world number two won the match in Melbourne 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 6-3.

With Murray's compatriot Johanna Konta reaching the last four in the women's draw earlier today, Britain has two representatives in the semi-finals of a grand slam for the first time since 1977.

It is the sixth time Murray has advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament.

He was forced to scrap for almost every point but finally subdued his eighth seed rival after three hours and 20 minutes of gruelling baseline tennis in Rod Laver Arena.
