Student hit-and-run case still pending

The case involves a hit-and-run accident of a student at Murray Barracks on Oct 5 last year.

The case of the driver who is allegedly responsible for the death of Port Moresby female student, the late Ann Murray Makis, opposite SVS at Two-Mile, returned to the Committal Court for mention today.

Allen Alex of Korobosea village, NCD, was arrested on Oct 5, 2016, and charged with dangerous driving causing death after he surrendered himself to police in fear of his life. He was allowed bail on Oct 14, 2016.

Reckless driver allowed bail

Allen Alex of Korobosea village, NCD went to court on Friday before magistrate Cosmas Bidar.

He was arrested on Oct 5 and charged with dangerous driving causing death after he surrendered himself to police in fear of his life.

Alex was driving a Toyota Coaster Bus along the Sir Hubert Murray Highway on Oct 5 when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a Grade 10 student, Ann Murray Makis opposite SVS 2-mile.

The deceased was walking along the Murray Barracks side of the road when she was hit by the bus and died instantly.
