Air Niugini suspends flights

This restriction applies to Port Moresby and all the airports around PNG. Unfortunately there is no alternative supplier of aviation fuel in most airports, including Port Moresby.

Consequently Air Niugini is forced to announce that all domestic flights from 0001 tomorrow (Thursday 5 January) have had to be cancelled due to Puma Energy’s refusal to supply Jet A1 fuel to the airlines. These cancelations will have to be ongoing until Puma’s restrictions are removed.

Airport Test Requirements Changed

Passengers will not need to get a test prior to departure to Australia, and hence can proceed directly to the Departures Check-in through the main terminal entrance.

Good news for international travellers as both Singapore and the Philippines are now open for travel for non-citizens.  You must complete either a negative rapid test (or a negative PCR test) prior to scheduled departure.

This is within 48 hours for Singapore, and 24 hours for Manila. Rapid tests are conducted either at the airport, or you can bring a compliant certificate with you issued by a doctor.

Airfares Payment Made Easier

At the launch recently, Air Niugini’s Chief Executive, Officer Bruce Alabaster said convenience and security have revolutionised the way people choose to travel.

“As the national airline of PNG, it is paramount to ensure our services are benchmarked by global standards and safety. We integrate the appropriate technology for the ease of doing business and provide a seamless customer experience from planning travel to ensuring we reach our destinations.

Air Niugini to build new residential complex

A new residential complex will be built just adjacent to its head office, which is hoped to deliver significant cost savings. It will accommodate the rotating flight crew and contract staff, both foreign and national, who are currently being accommodated at hotels and costly rented premises.

Chairman of Air Niugini Limited Sir Frederick Reiher says this will enable Air Niugini to bring “in house” at a considerable saving to the airline, industrial laundry and dry cleaning services, which have been outsourced for many years.
