Residents urged to act responsibly

Acting provincial police commander, George Bayagau, says he expects them to observe the law whilst celebrating.

“I will have police currently on operation to monitor the town and the province as well and if anything arises, we are prepared to deal with them according to law.”

The province, famous for its beautiful islands and peace-loving people, has been making headlines for the wrong reasons.

Milne Bay police boss on rise in crime

Major crimes like sea piracy and armed robbery have been on the rise since.

The infamous Tommy Baker escaped from the Giligili correctional holding cell in 2016 and since then, criminal elements believed to be part of his gang have been terrorising the quiet province of Milne Bay.

“Tommy Baker has connections both within and outside of the province, and he has been constantly doing these things and we know very well his activities cover Oro (Northern) and Morobe Province, and also in NCD and Central Province,” said acting provincial police commander, George Bayagau.

The families of the victims demanded police arrest and charge the policemen involved.

In a statement, the Royal PNG Constabulary said: “A police officer is now under police custody. He will be formally arrested and charged after formal investigations are completed.

“The Police Investigation is continuing and a Criminal Investigation Division (CID) team from Port Moresby is in the province to deal with the case.”

Grandfather arrested for assault of 9yo

The man who is also a village court magistrate from the Bupichupeu - Lelemadih Local Level Government was arrested in Manus on Wednesday.

Acting Provincial Police Commander Senior Inspector David Yapu said the victim is the accused’s own granddaughter who is nine years old.

It is alleged she was sexually touched by the 44-year-old man on April 9 while she was sleeping in one of the rooms in the family home.

Locals sabotage flight operations into Momote

Police in Manus told Loop PNG today, two men from the Rapatona LLG removed the office keys from Enock Kapet who is the safety officer, affecting flight operations into the airport because they were not happy with the awarding of the contract for the airport redevelopment.

Acting Provincial Police Commander, Senior Inspector David Yapu said the incident took place last Friday, March 31 which saw flights affected for three days.

Couple arrested over porn production

They are expected to appear at the Lorengau District Court on Tuesday to answer to their charges.

The 36-year-old woman from Pere village was arrested by police on Jan 26 while the man, also 36, from Jekal village, was arrested on Jan 27.

Both were charged for producing pornographic pictures and movies at the harbour side hotel.

They were later released on K500 bail each.

Police alleged that the couple, between the months of September and October 2016, booked a room at the hotel where they were involved in the production of pornography.
