Swedish Superstar Zlatan Retires from Football

Ibrahimović was out of contract with the Serie A club at the end of the season and Milan had already announced there would be a special ceremony after its match against Hellas Verona to bid farewell to the 41-year-old Swede.

But Ibrahimović later revealed in a news conference that no one knew the big news he was about to drop.

"Even my family didn't know, because I wanted that when I announced it, everyone heard it at the same time," he said.

Ibrahimović was given a guard of honour by his teammates as he walked out after the match at San Siro.

He previously featured for Serie A rivals Juventus and Inter and played for Paris St-Germain, Manchester United and LA Galaxy between his Milan spells.

AC Milan 0-2 Arsenal: Gunners take first-leg advantage after Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Aaron Ramsey goals

A deflected strike saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan get off the mark for Arsenal (15), and having conceded their first goal in 569 minutes, Milan soon found themselves 2-0 down when Aaron Ramsey rounded Gianluigi Donnarumma in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time.

Both goals were superbly assisted by Mesut Ozil, and after a bold attacking display in the opening 45 minutes, Arsenal's defence stood firm after the break to seal a morale-boosting win.

Forward Silva, signed from Porto, netted from the penalty spot with 15 minutes left of the match in Catania, having earlier had a goal ruled out by a VAR review and been denied by some inspired goalkeeping from Dani Gimenez.

His intervention from 12 yards came eight minutes after Betis substitute Fabian had scored with a magnificent strike.

But Betis won it in the last minute when VAR again worked in their favour, penalising Hakan Calhanoglu for a handball that allowed substitute Antonio Sanabria to score from the spot.
