Wesley leads Milne Bay Regional count

After the 12th elimination, Gordon Wesley (PNC) was leading with 28,426 votes.

Madang still counting

This newsroom was informed that Bogia has completed all primary counts and have conducting eliminations since last week. Other districts are still doing primary counts.
 
Most of the counting for the seven seats are being conducted in Madang town, except for Usino Bundi and Bogia.
 
According to security personnel, counting in Bogia and Walium station are running smoothly with declarations expected this week.
 

Isoaimo declared for Kairuku Open

Kairuku is the first Open electorate in Central Province to declare a member-elect for the 11th Parliament.

Isoaimo was declared by the Returning Officer for Kairuku Open, Henry Oa at the counting venue at Murray Barracks. Oa said Isoaimo won by 10,594, passing the absolute majority of 9,860 votes. Oa then invited Isoaimo to sign the writ.

“Today at my declaration I am the first member for Kairuku open seat, the journey to splitting Kairuku and Hiri Electorate took us well over 8 years,” said Isoaimo.

Muthuvel declared, retains seat

Muthuvel was declared member-elect on Sunday 31 July, by Provincial Returning Officer Emily Kelton after he polled 47, 878 votes.

The absolute majority of votes was 46, 499.

Former Police Commissioner and People’s National Congress Party candidate, Gari Baki polled in second place with 45, 118 votes.

Muthuvel said he is extremely humbled by the decision of the people of West New Britain to give him the opportunity once again serve the province.

He further acknowledge fellow candidates for their contributions to running the election race.

NIP concludes security ops

New Ireland Provincial Police Commander, Felix Nebanat, highlighted this in a final briefing with the Namatanai team recently.

Nebanat said he was impressed with the high standard of professionalism displayed by every member of the joint security force, adding he was overwhelmed with the outcome of operations in general, despite minor hiccups that were swiftly dealt with to ensure the smooth running of the election process.

In a true esprit de corps nature, they served with honour and integrity to see this 2022 election for the province come to a conclusion.

Students sent home for safety

The school's Deputy Principal Administration Michael Camillus Kavagu, said the schools administration is concerned with the safety of the student while commuting to and from school as counting is underway in the provincial capital, Madang. 

Mr Kavagu said counting for Madang Open is in progress at the school’s Marape Hall.

He said teachers are prepared to teach but are concerned about unconfirmed threats being circulating on social media.

He said Grade 12 students were allowed to come to class because of the Written Expression exam on August 15, 2022.

RO challenges MPs

She made this statement during the signing of the writ for Finschhafen’s Member-elect, Rainbo Paita, which was witnessed by Lae’s Member-elect, John Rosso.

Joses issued the challenge to Rosso and Paita, urging them to support the Electoral Commission instead of waiting until the last minute.

Gulf Seats Complete Quality Checks

This has caused slow progressive counting updates since Thursday night. Due to numerous issues regarding counting figures, the Gulf Electoral Office was advised to undergo quality checks for every count before progressive totals are posted. This is to avoid any disputes.

So far, Gulf provincial counting centre have completed the quality check for Kerema Urban, Central Kerema LLG and East Kerema LLG. Checks have also been done for Tairuma and the four Kikori LLGs.

Kerema open has completed all primary counts for all 6 LLGs with quality checks done.

Security Forces On Alert

Provincial Police Commander, Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang said he is aware of a text message regarding a security threat. The PPC said he wants the people of Madang not to name or blame anyone, because the message is false.
 
He said police are also investigating the matter to establish who posted the message to bring fear among the people and disrupt normal business. 
 

Maneke Declared For Nakanai Open

He was declared with 20, 156 votes exceeding the absolute majority of 17, 920 after the 16th exclusion.

Progressive results after 16th Exclusion are as follows with PFP candidate Nixon Paiaki Volele eliminated with a remaining tally of 12,684 votes.
