Australia Boomers beat Slovenia to earn men's basketball bronze medal

After a host of fourth-place finishes, Australia finally got their hands on an Olympic medal, beating Slovenia 107-93 to win bronze in the Tokyo 2020 men’s basketball tournament.

The Australia Boomers finished in the dreaded fourth place in Seoul 1988, Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and, more recently, Rio 2016 before finally getting their breakthrough in Tokyo.

Olympic veteran Patty Mills led from the front injecting passion and skill into the game while contributing a mammoth 42 points to the Boomers’ scoreline.

Chopra goes farthest for men’s javelin gold as Vadlejch takes silver and Veselý goes bronze

Neeraj Chopra of India took home the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw here at the Tokyo 2020 (in 2021) Olympic Games with a best effort of 87.58m on the final day of throws at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium.

In his Olympic debut, Chopra became only the second Indian man to claim an Olympic medal in athletics, after Norman Pritchard took the men's 200m (silver) and 200m hurdles (silver) in 1900.

Brazil beat Spain in extra-time for back-to-back men’s football gold

It took a goal deep in extra-time from super-sub Malcom to see Brazil beat Spain 2-1 and claim their second (and second-straight) gold medal in men’s Olympic football at the International Stadium Yokohama.

The deciding strike, scored from a tight angle, settled the heavyweight contest after regular time ended tangled at 1-1 thanks to earlier goals from Spain’s Mikel Oyarzabal and Brazilian star Matheus Cunha.

‘Italy’s fairytale’: men’s 4x100m gold continues summer of success

Italy continued its summer of incredible sporting success by clinching gold in the men’s 4x100m relay at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

It was the country’s first-ever victory in the men’s relay and brings the total number of medals won by Italy so far at this Olympics to 38 – placing it seventh in the medals table, the highest among countries from mainland Europe.

“This is an historic record, we don’t want it to stop,” said Giovanni Malagò, the president of the Italian Olympic Committee.

There was no need for Shaunae Miller-Uibo to dive at the line winning her second consecutive 400m Olympic gold medal by a comfortable margin at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium.

Five years ago, Miller-Uibo made headlines when she dove at the line to edge U.S. legend Allyson Felix by 0.07 to claim her maiden title.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama confirmed this afternoon. Tuwai will be recognized for his achievements, as he is the only player to have won two Olympic gold medals, won the Hong Kong 7s titles for five years in a row and the World Rugby 7s Player of the Decade.

Bainimarama has confirmed this is only part of a one million dollar package for the entire 7s and Fijiana teams.

QUAN Hongchan, 14, scores perfect tens to win women's 10m platform diving gold

In a diving competition for the ages, People's Republic of China's QUAN Hongchan set the 10m platform final alight with three 10s.

The impeccable Quan, only 14 years of age, barely made a ripple as she surged ahead with a score of 466.20. Teammate CHEN Yuxi won silver, more than 40 points back on 425.40, with Melissa Wu of Australia third on 371.40.

But the final belonged to Quan, who thrilled and amazed in equal measure to take an unforgettable diving gold.

Kevin Durant leads Team USA to their fourth straight Olympic gold medal final, his third

Kevin Durant's  bid to join Carmelo Anthony  as the only other basketball  player to win three straight Olympic gold medals is still alive after another stunning display against Australia.

Durant had a game-high 23 points and nine rebounds as the U.S. defeated Australia 97-78.

The USA's all-time top-scorer was everywhere, stopping dunks, hitting threes, single-handedly putting down an early Australian uprising and now the States play for their 16th gold medal in Tokyo.

Canada’s Andre de Grasse gets hands on 200m gold medal adding to Rio 2016 silver

Andre de Grasse became the new 200m king, blazing to Olympic glory leading a new generation of speedsters across the line at the Tokyo National Stadium.

De Grasse held a slender lead coming out of the bend but had Bednarek and Lyles for company with the Canadian holding on to cross the line in a time of 19.62 seconds. Bednarek followed in second with a personal best of 19.68, with Lyles bagging bronze in 19.74.
