Volunteers to help in FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup

Away from public eye, there is a bustling group who will be learning new skills and working overtime to assist the LOC in making sure the tournament runs smoothly from the participating teams’ perspective as well as for the many fans that will turned up.

With that, FIFA has partnered with the Urban Youth Employment Project (UYEP), a local level government initiative by Governor Powes Parkop and Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko which will see 1,000 marginalised youth trained to join the FIFA Local Organising Committee workforce for the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Air Niugini and Telikom support FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup

Air Niugini in support of the event will provide kind assistance comprising of air travel discounts and other promotional activities.

Meanwhile, Telikom PNG being the leading supporter of football in PNG will provide facilities and backing FIFA for the broadcasting of the competition, which will see the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup reach over 200 million people around the world.

As a leading telecommunication company, Telikom PNG will provide phone lines and internet services for the four stadiums hosting matches throughout the three-week tournament.

FIFA venues set to complete on time

Fifteen other nations are turning their attention to the host nation Papua New Guinea and wondering if they can deliver such a striking tournament.

Despite ongoing talks, preparations for the games continue ahead of schedule.

All are due to be completed before  November 13.

Media accreditation for FIFA U-20 World Cup opens

FIFA announced that the accreditation process will be open for 5 weeks from the 5th of September to the 7th of October. 
Media representatives (print and electronic) were advised through a media workshop held last week, where they were given a run through of the process for accreditation.

The media were told they must register through the FIFA media channel before submitting a completed accreditation form via the FIFA media channel. 

New Bomana barracks to serve manpower for FIFA World Cup

Police Commissioner Gari Baki upon being presented the key to the barracks says, the recruit barracks will initially be used to house policewomen from other provinces who will be brought to in as support manpower for the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup that will be hosted here in the nation’s capital in November.

Apart from that, it will be used as a transit Co- Ed barracks where both male and females who have passed out of training will be accommodated while waiting for their posting to their respective provinces.

Beautiful Madang to host Momase regional qualifiers

Madang Soccer Association President Ray Romo in a meeting with the Local Organizing Committee and Chairman of Momase Soccer Federation Sigi Beche reiterated that MSA is looking forward to the tournament and will do everything possible to make this tournament a success.

“As the President of one of the oldest association in the country, my executives and I are ready to host the tournament, at the same time provide necessary support to the local organising committee.”

Sports Minister welcomes FIFA teams

Minister Tkatchenko said: “In place of over one thousand cultures and more than 800 languages that make up our country PNG, we would like to thank the FIFA committees for giving us the opportunity to host the 2016 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.”

“On behalf of our Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill and our Government of Papua New Guinea, let me be the first to welcome you to our country PNG for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup,” he said.
