Police Minister saddened over death of officer in Alotau

Late Constable Pisa was shot and killed in the line of duty by criminals in Alotau, Milne Bay Province.

Minister Robert Atiyafa said: “It is indeed a sad moment for the family and the Constabulary to have such a young man in the prime of his life taken away so suddenly and so brutally”.

The Minister urged the family and colleagues of the slain policeman to keep calm and allow the law to take its course. He gave his assurance that those who shot the policeman will be brought to justice.

Alotau police to repatriate body of slain cop

The late Pias was shot dead during an exchange of fire between police and an armed gang over the weekend.

Provincial Police Commander, Joseph Morehari, told TVWan news via telephone that officer Pias was shot as the armed gang was getting away after robbing the Jade Island Trading on Saturday, July 30th.

PPC Morehari said some of the suspects were wounded by police, but managed to escape on a dinghy.

Baki condemns officer shooting, orders full investigation

Commissioner Gari Baki said this is shocking news for the family of the slain policeman as well as the constabulary.

He has ordered a full and immediate investigation into the shooting.

“We not rest until those criminals are brought to justice,” Commissioner Baki said.                                                                                                                                                                                       

Nine suspects have been identified however, all have gone into hiding.
