Six MPs face Leadership Tribunal in 2015

On March 20 this year, Member for Manus Ronny Knight was found guilty of misappropriation in office by the tribunal. He was recommended for dismissal from office by the Leadership Tribunal on May 1st. A stay against his dismissal was later granted by Acting Judge Leka Nabu stopping Knight’s dismissal from office on May 22.  On July 21 he was granted leave to review the decision of the leadership tribunal that recommended his dismissal from office.  The review is expected to take place in February 2016.

MLR tour a highlight of 2015

MLTR visited Port Moresby twice this year and performed at Lamana Gold Club on Jan 17 and returned to perform at the 40th Independence celebrations on Sept 16 at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

This was the first ever biggest outdoor concert experienced by city residents since O’Yaba performed at the Sir John Guise Stadium in 1997.

2015 was more of a quiet year for international artists that toured PNG compared to 2014 where we had huge acts including Maxi Priest, Sean Paul, UB40, Inner Circle, Shaggy, Sean Kingston, Mya, Kevin Little and Mario.

No new taxes in 2016

O’Neill gave this assurance at the PNG Advantage investment summit in Brisbane, in August this year.

PMIZ finally gets underway

PMIZ is situated close to RD Tuna Cannery at Vidar, Madang Province.

This project will be developed on 215 hectares of land.

It is understood, 100 hectares will host canneries and 115 hectares for residential and commercial purposes.

The project was delayed for five years because of Court proceedings instigated by customary landowners because of environmental concerns.  

Trade, Commerce and Industry Minister Richard Maru ticked the project has one of the achievement for his department in 2015.

2015 – A phenomenal year for sport

Performances nationally and abroad from individual athletes, teams and from Team PNG have stamped PNG’s foot on the world stage sporting arena.

Some highlights include;

Rugby League:

The SP PNG Hunters finished off the Intrust Super Cup competition in third place in only their second season in the second tier level of rugby league.

Israel Eliab was named Five-Eighth of the Year and subsequently named in the 2015 Team of the Year.
