WNB Governor confident with franchise team

West New Britain Governor Sasindran Muthuvel has been overwhelmed with the preparations of the Kimbe Cutters’ bid in the Digicel Cup competition next year.

Muthuvel, who was in the province to witness another staging of the Cutters’ last leg of the 9s tournament in Kimbe last weekend, said he is confident that the team will make it into the competition in 2019.

With the aim of selecting potential and talented players for the Kimbe Cutters team next year, the provincial leaders have put every effort into the bid.

Governor Muthuvel said their bid is also getting support from senior political leaders around the country, including Enga Governor Peter Ipatas.

“I have strong confident that our team will make it through,” stated Muthuvel.

“We are ready to fund the team and all the province is behind our franchise team.”

He reiterated that sport is one way that can create employment and reduce law and order issues in the province.

He therefore encouraged all youths in the province to take part in the tournaments staged around the province.

Other 9s tournaments were conducted in Bialla, Hoskins and Talasea as part of the Kimbe Cutters scouting program.

The aim of the Cutters Board of Management is to identify raw talented young men that can form the provincial franchise team.

In the staging of the Kimbe 9s during the weekend, a sixty-man squad was selected into three teams that will play in the Provincial 13s – later to be held in September.

The Provincial 13s will enable selectors to further select 40 men who will go into camp with training that will further be trimmed down to 25 men.
