Weak play in first half: Marum

Despite not completing all their sets, the SP PNG Hunters managed a 12-point win over the Sunshine Coast Falcons yesterday.

In a post-match conference yesterday, Hunters coach Michael Marum admitted that the first half saw weak play by the PNG boys.

It was a sluggish start for the Hunters in the first half of the round 16 Intrust Super Cup match.

The boys were still finding their feet 2 minutes into the game when the Falcons easily put one over the line.

After the first try of the match, it took almost 32 minutes for the Hunters to find their rhythm.

“It’s a bit hard when you’re playing sides like the Falcons; they’re in your face every day,” stated coach Marum.

“We didn’t control all our sets in the first half.

“And again, the tries came from errors; we were moving up, we were applying pressure on them.

“Our defensive structure was to go up and really meet them in the line.”

After almost four weeks, the round 16 clash was captain Ase Boas’ first full game, and impress he did with two tries to his name.

Coach Marum said it was good getting him to play full minutes again, and hoped he’d train well for their next clash.

Meantime, the Falcons’ captain, Liam McDonald, expressed similar sentiments in the failure in execution of sets, and also credited the Hunters for a tough game.
