Trukai fun run event launched

The Trukai Fun Run is the PNG Olympic Committees single largest fundraising event for Team PNG to attend various international sporting events.

The Trukai Fun Run is set to go following the official launching of the event at the Royal Papua Yacht Club on Thursday by the PNG Olympic Committee with the support from Trukai Industries.

The annual fun run event is a PNGOC initiative and Trukai Industries has been the major sponsor since 2000, making this its 19th year of sponsorship.

President of PNGOC, Sir John Dawanicura, said they are looking forward to another successful year of fundraiser events to support Team PNG to represent the country in this year’s main gaming and sporting events abroad.

“This nationwide event has been popularity over the years,” says Vice Minister for Sport, Wesley Raminai.

“We encourage all Papua New Guineans and residents of this country to support this event.”

The launch also featured the revealing of the Trukai Fun Run shirt designs for 2018 which support a special message about the Sustainable Development Goals.

The shirts were modelled by Team PNG athletes and school students as part of the launch activities.

Trukai industries will again be sponsoring 100, 000 shirts this year.

Meanwhile, organizations will bid for T-shirts during auctions in Lae and Port Moresby on March 7 and the 8th respectively, and those who purchase the shirts have the opportunity to put their logo on the shirt and donate to a certain school.

Funds raised from this year’s sales of shirts will go towards sending Team PNG to the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia in April this year.

Team PNG Chef de mission to the Commonwealth Games, Tamzin Wardly says Trukai industries have been a great support for Team PNG.

Wardly thanked Trukai industries Ltd for supporting the event and invited organizations to be part of this year’s Trukai fun run.

The date for the fun run is marked for Sunday June 24th with an estimated 80, 000 participants across all centers of the country to be part of the early morning fun family event.
