Trukai Fun Run all set for Sunday

Thousands in Port Moresby and across other centers will form a sea of yellow when they hit the road for this Sunday’s 2017 Trukai Fun Run.

President of the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee, Sir John Dawanincura praised Trukai Industries and other key corporate supporters of Team PNG in 2017 for making the event possible.

Sir John thanked Trukai Industries for sponsoring 100,000 shirts for the Fun Run this year and acknowledged the organizations who purchased shirts at the auctions in Lae and Port Moresby.

“We are extremely grateful for the support of Trukai Industries who have been backing the Fun Run over the last 17 years. Their assistance has helped us to raise much needed funds for Team PNG to participate in numerous international sporting events.

“We also thank Air Niugini and IBS University who have encouraged more people to be a part of the event by giving opportunities to Papua New Guineans through their programs and special offers as part of their support for the Fun Run,” Sir John said.

The venue for Port Moresby will be at the Sir John Guise Stadium with the Fun Run itself to start at 6:30am.

Those with vehicles can use the ‘Park & Ride Service’ provided by the National Capital District Commission, while others can be picked up along the main bus stops in the city.

People are encouraged to wear their 2017 Trukai Fun Run T-shirt to have access to the transport.

There will be entertainment and an address by the Governor General of Papua New Guinea, Bob Dadae followed by a warm up session led by Team PNG athletes, members of the SP Hunters with North Queensland Cowboys, Matt Scott and Brent Tate before the Fun Run gets underway.

A combined force of volunteers, technical and medical teams, security personnel from police and the military, NCDC and grounds staff from the PNG Sports Foundation will be on hand to ensure that safety and security is observed.

However, drivers are urged to take note of the Fun Run route to avoid any inconveniences.

The Trukai Fun Run is a major fundraising event for the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee which raises much needed funds for Team PNG athletes to participate at international sporting events.

Those who have not bought shirts can visit the RH Supermarket or City Pharmacy shops.
