Stand United for earthquake disaster

“Stand United” will be the theme for all PNGRFL sanctioned rugby league events especially the Digicel Cup trial matches and Round 1 of the Intrust Super Cup competition game this weekend.

Chairman of the PNG Rugby Football League, Sandis Tsaka informed all games organisers to set up ‘donation buckets’ at all venues and to observe a ‘minutes silence’ before each game to remember those who have lost their lives.

“The earthquake disaster has seriously devastated people and provinces where rugby league is passionately followed.

“We as a sport have to stand united with our people whose lives and homes have been affected.”

Meantime, in Port Moresby, Hela Wigmen face Gulf Isou in the Digicel Cup trial fixture at 12:15pm on Sunday at the Oil Search Football Stadium.

This will be the curtain raiser to the SP Hunters Intrust Super Cup season opener against Ipswich Jets which kicks off at 3.00pm.

In Lae, two trial matches will be played with the Enga Mioks and Mendi Muruks match at 2pm on Saturday, followed by the Lae Snax Tigers and Goroka Lahanis clash on Sunday starting at 1:30pm.

“These matches are dedicated to the earthquake disaster areas and all funds raised through the bucket donations and gates will be disclosed early next week..

“Let’s dig deep and help our fellow citizens and families and stand united to support them through financial donations.”

Meanwhile TVWAN will be televising the two matches in Port Moresby.
