The seven centres confirmed to host the Trukai Fun Run are Port Moresby, Lae, Alotau, Ramu, Madang, Goroka and Kokopo. Last year an estimated 80,000 participants took part in the Fun Run and it is expected that more people will participate this year.
This year’s route for Port Moresby has moved from Sir John Guise Stadium to the Paga Ring Road at Ela Beach. The Fun Run starts at 6.30am from the Paga Ring road adjacent to the APEC House, past Harbour side down to the Puma Service Station roundabout and heads back the same route to the finishing at the Paga Ring road.
Trukai Industries Limited Brand Manager, Nancy Inai, said preparations are well underway to ensure a safe and enjoyable event in Port Moresby and other locations. She also encouraged everyone to be in their 2019 Trukai Fun Run t-shirt to participate.
“Trukai Industries and PNG Olympic Committee (PNGOC) are working in partnership with all relevant stakeholders such as St John’s Ambulance, Police, NCDC and others to make this year’s event safe and enjoyable for all our participants,” she said.
The route is estimated to be a 6km walk and Port Moresby residents are urged to come along and enjoy the day with their families and be a part of the biggest social sporting event in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific.
The Trukai Fun Run is an annual fundraising event for PNG Olympic Committee to raise funds for Team PNG. Funds raised from this year’s event will go towards supporting Team PNG to the upcoming 16th Pacific Games in Samoa later in July to ensure our sports men and women are well represented at such sporting events.
Each year, Trukai Industries Limited donates 100,000 t-shirts to PNGOC to sell and raise funds. The event itself is 36 years old, having started in 1983. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of Trukai Industries as the Official Sponsor of the event since 1999.
Early this year, the Trukai Fun Run auctions sold a total of 61,200 shirts in both Lae and Port Moresby, a massive achievement from the previous auctions.
If the crowd from last year’s event is any indication, 2019 is expected to see over 40, 000 participants flock Ela Beach in a sea of yellow on Sunday, June 16th.
T-shirts are selling for K15 each. Contact PNGOC on 323 1411 or Trukai Industries on 300 0000 to purchase your t-shirts.
There will also be massive t-shirt sales in Port Moresby and other participating locations in the coming days. For more information about the Trukai Fun Run, visit the Official Trukai Fun Run Facebook page www.facebook.com/trukaifunrun
