PNG powerlifting team returns

The PNG powerlifting team of seven returned to the country yesterday, led by Linda Pulsan.

Pulsan said she was pleased with her result over the weekend at the Brisbane Open, which she did not expect.

World powerlifting icon Pulsan snatched gold plus she took out the Best Female Lifter Trophy award.

Hitolo Kevau, Kalau Andrew and Livingstone Sikoli also won gold medals for PNG in their weight classes, while Henry Kelo, Martin Titus and Anderson Mangela picked up silver and bronze.

“We did not have a lot of competitions and regular training so I didn’t think I would do as well as I did.”

Pulsan congratulated her teammates on their respective successes as well and also extended her thanks to sponsor Michael Kingston of KK Kingston.

“We athletes train hard to represent our country but without support from good sponsors we cannot do much.

“Michael (Kingston) has assisted us really well and I believe this played a big part in our success so I thank Michael and KK Kingston,” she said.

Manager and Coach, Phil Priestly, joined Pulsan in thanking KK Kingston and also praised the athletes for their efforts at the tournament.

“Michael payed a big role in assisting us put the team together and to get these results from scratch is really something. We’re really proud of the team and also for the support of Michael and K.K Kingston,” said Priestly.

The PNG powerlifting team is also sponsored by locally manufactured brands: Dazzle Bleach, Gold N Sun Cooking Oil and Tuffa Tanks.
