PNG Games: Team Central proves worth in 9s

After years of settling for second place, Team Central finally proved themselves worthy of gold in this year’s rugby 9s challenge at the BSP 7th PNG Games.

Team Central beat Madang 42 points to 36.

Madang’s full back player Dickson Gibson tried his best for his team however, Team Central came out too strong.

Team captain for Central Province, Steven Gia, said winning a gold medal was a great achievement and experience for the team.

Gia thanked team coach Collin Gena for his support and for giving the players courage to perform well in the grand final.

In an interview with Central coach Gena, when the final draw was given, he said he knew Madang had the advantage of winning the game in terms of speed and agility.

However, Team Central managed to come out winners at the end and Gena adds that it took structural play to win the gold medal.

The 2 teams displayed an outstanding game of rugby league.

Meanwhile, Team NCD won gold in the men’s rugby 7s grand final competitions played at the Sarakolok Rugby Field.
