PM applauds Kumuls

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has congratulated the PNG LNG Kumuls on their performances in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup tournament.

Having attended their two matches so far, he said: “It was great to see mums and dads, together with their children attending the two games against Wales and Ireland and supporting the PNG LNG Kumuls.”

O’Neill, who is also the Minister for Sports, continued: “These are proud moments for us as a country of thousand tribes, but united by one common theme - rugby league.”

He urged all PNG Kumuls supporters attending the final match against the United States to turn up in red, black and gold - the PNG colours; and send the Kumuls off to Melbourne on a high.

O’Neill said the decision to host the three matches has provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase Papua New Guinea to the world through the live television coverage being broadcasted to over 130 global markets, with an estimated television audience of over 165 million viewers.

He acknowledged and thanked everyone for their support so far for the Kumuls and also for showcasing Papua New Guinea in a very positive light.

Meanwhile, the Kumuls are set to take on USA this afternoon at the Oil Search National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
