With months counting down to the Rugby League World Cup 2017 (RLWC2017), the RLWC2017 Organising Committee (OC) today announced Oil Search as tournament partner in Papua New Guinea.
The RLWC2017 is scheduled from October 26 to December 2 and will be co-hosted by Australia, New Zealand and PNG.
PNG will host national team Kumuls’ three pool matches against Wales (October 28), Ireland (November 5) and the USA (November 12).
As Official Platinum Partner, Oil Search will have a branding presence that will be seen in over 110 countries where the RLWC2017 is broadcast.
Oil Search will also partner the World Cup Trophy Tour and community program to be run by the RLWC2017 OC throughout PNG.
RLWC2017 general manager commercial and marketing, Rohan Sawyer said at a media conference during the announcement, that the excitement and enthusiasm for the RLWC throughout PNG is tangible.
Sawyer said they look forward to working with Oil Search to deliver an event that will celebrate rugby league, inspire communities and showcase PNG to the world.
Oil Search managing director Peter Botten said as a proud PNG company, Oil Search is thrilled to partner with the tournament organisers to bring this prestigious event to the country.
Botten highlighted that it is an historic event for PNG as this is the first time that RLWC matches will be played in the country.
He said the tournament will provide PNG citizens with an opportunity to watch our very own Kumuls take on international teams on home soil.
