Netball PNG has welcomed the support from Newcrest Mining Limited, through a sponsorship of 90 thousand kina towards the Annual National Netball Championships to be held in Lae, Morobe Province this September.
Netball PNG Chair, Julienne Leka said this is the first time that netball is supported at this level by a large corporate organisation in the extractive industry.
Newcrest Government Relations Manager, Stanley Komunt, said Newcrest has a vision to contribute to PNG development programs across the country, and not just in communities within its operations.
Newcrest was supporting Netball PNG to foster women’s empowerment, respectful relationships, healthy living, and strong leadership.
This year’s championships will focus on the identification and selection of emerging talent for our junior and senior training squads for the Pacific Games in Samoa, International Women’s Day Test, the World Youth Cup Qualifiers in 20-20 and the World Youth Cup tournament in 20-21.
The Netball PNG Board will also deliver Capacity Building Training including Umpiring, Coaching, Leadership and Governance Programs within the margins of this event.ct
