More work needed for Orchids

Coach of the Oil Search PNG Orchids, Dennis Miall, was happy with certain aspects of their first game against England but admits there is a lot to work on as they prepare for Canada today.

Miall (pronounced My-all) said it was not what the team expected as England gave a very tough game last Thursday (November 16).

Orchids didn’t do the little things that we were supposed to do, and that was what let the team down, according to Coach Miall.

The experience from England got the better of the PNG girls as the game unfolded however, the real pool matches for the Orchids start today when they take on Canada.

The Canadian team has a rugby union background, and their ability to adapt to the 13-a-side game on field was pleasing for coach Mike Castle.

Canada, just like PNG, went down to New Zealand Ferns 50 points to 4 in the opening pool matches.

PNG Orchids go into this match confident with a good chance of recording their first world cup win.

If PNG pools off a win and then meets New Zealand with a close score line, they could well see a semi-final or even grand final appearance, keeping the Jillaroos in sight.

The Oil Search PNG Orchids take on Canada at 6.30pm local time at the Southern Cross Stadium in Sydney, Australia.
