Marum: The effort wasn’t there

‘The effort wasn’t there’ is what SP Hunters coach, Michael Marum had to say after Sunday’s 22-22 draw with the eighth placed Mackay Cutters.

“We knew it was going to be a tough one. We expected a big game. We got off to a good lead in the early part of the second half but then just fell asleep again. The effort wasn’t there.

“It was basic errors that cost us the draw but one point is better than nothing. We’re looking forward to our next game,” said Marum.

Marum added he was still proud of the team’s performance.

“Maintaining our top placing in the competition for this long is not easy. Every team wants to take you out whether it’s a top team or bottom team. It’s a challenge we go through every week.

“We just have to see where we went wrong and fix it up before our next game,” said Marum.

The current standings:

1) SP Hunters (33), 2) Sunshine Coast Falcons (29), 3) Easts Tigers (29), 4) Redcliffe Dolphins (28), 5) Townsville Blackhawks (26), Souths Logan Magpies (26).

Round 21 will see the Hunters take on the Redcliffe Dolphins at Dolphin Oval at 1:40pm this Sunday.
