International Youth Day games

Youths in the mining township of Tabubil, North Fly district in Western Province, celebrated the United Nations International Youth Day.

The indoor stadium came alive on Sunday with over 150 youths from churches within Tabubil competing in volleyball games organised by the Western Flalok Netball Club and supported by Tawap Kamen Investment (TKI) Limited.

TKI, a partly owned company by shareholders from the local area, has been a very good supporter of the Flalok Netball Club’s community organised events.

The volleyball games were arranged purposely for the youths to participate to celebrate the United Nations International Youth Day, which falls on August 12.

Church youths that participated were United Church, Catholic, Baptist, SDA, Community Church Network, Lutheran and teachers from Tabubil Primary School.

Youths were encouraged to be good citizens and get involved in activities that are good for their education, community, family and future.

They were also encouraged to behave positively and appreciate the love and respect people give them.

Locally owned super market, Star Mart, supported the day with two cartons of bottled water while other sponsors also donated soft drinks and bottled water.

The three winning teams were each presented with a carton of Coca-Cola.

Western Flalok Netball Club thanked TKI for their support and the organisers for a very successful day.

Western Flalok Netball Club will be participating in the upcoming biannual Pan Pacific Masters Games in Gold Coast, Brisbane, Australia, from the 02nd to 11th November.

The club is made up of women from the local area and from other provinces living and working in Tabubil.

The netball club has been involved in various activities including visits to hospitals, Ninegerum Correctional Services and organising medical appeals and literacy donations.

The club also promotes health, sports and other awareness programs within the community and engages women, youth and girls from the surrounding community to participate.
