Hunters overtake Jets with 20-4 win

A much improved second half performance gave the SP Hunters a 20-4 win over the Ipswich Jets at home at the National Football Stadium this afternoon.

The visitors found the try line first after a break from the halfway line by Nemani Valekapa, who then flicked it out to Michael Purcell to score in the 8th minute.

The Hunters could not hold on to the ball in the first half; poor ball handling denied them any points with incomplete sets.

The Jets continued to ask questions but the Hunters’ defence was up to the task to keep them out.

It took 39 minutes but the Hunters finally found the try line, thanks to a barnstorming run from David Loko, who shrugged off five defenders before slamming the ball down.

A missed conversion from captain and five-eighth meant the score was left at 4-4 at the break.

Cutting down on their errors in the second half allowed the Hunters to get into their rhythm and build up the pressure and keep their opponents scoreless.

Stargroth Amean put the Hunters in front, crossing the line in the 50th minute.

From this point on, it was all one way traffic as the Hunters dominated the rest of the match.

Consecutive sets brought more points for the Hunters.

A short ball from Wartovo Puara Jr to Stanton Albert sent him crashing over to score.

The crowd of 6,005 were on their feet in the 77th minute when Boas pounced on a loose ball to run 50 meters to score the final points of the round 22 match.
