Hunters lose to Seagulls in round 25 clash

The SP Hunters suffered defeat in the last round of the Intrust Super Cup, going down 26-18 to the Tweed Heads Seagulls at Piggabeen Complex in Australia this afternoon.

The Seagulls raced away to an 18-0 lead after 29 minutes with tries to Samuel Meskell, Nicholas Harrold and Jayden Baker.

But the Hunters hit back with two tries in five minutes towards the end of the first half. The first was to captain and five-eighth Ase Boas, followed by fullback Stargroth Amean.

This brought the half-time score to 18-12.

Points were hard to come by in the second half with both sides only managing one try each.

The Seagulls found the try line in the 44th minute through Tristan Lumley.

The boot of Lindon McGrady extended the Seasgulls lead out to 26-12 kicking a penalty.

The Hunters muscled their way back into the contest in the 62nd minute, registering their third try thanks to Wartovo Puara Jnr.

Boas ensured the deficit was brought back to a converted try, kicking the ball through the posts to make it three from three.

But the Seagulls defended their lead to the final whistle to come out victors.
