Hunters back on the grind

The SP Hunters are into their seventh week of pre-season training in their quest for back-to-back premierships.

In the forwards, Coach Michael Marum is looking to players like Moses Meninga, Mackenzie Yei, Muka Peter Kulu and Baundo Aba to drive the engine room this season.

“Mackenzie is big and really strong. Muka is been in the system for the past year and Baundo from the Enga Mioks has trained really well.

“We want to see how these boys can move on from the fitness side of things to the contact stuff. We’ve got a lot of time so we can still work with them.”

To the playmaking roles, Marum has plenty of firepower bringing in William Mone and Charlie Simon who will be playing in the shadows of brothers Ase and Watson Boas.

“We also have a couple of other utility players like Junior Bobby who can play fullback, winger and centre.

“Some of these players might find themselves playing in different positions depending on how well they train.”

Marum knows next month’s trial match against the Brisbane Broncos will be a tough one.

“We’ve got a good mix here players. We’ve been training well and want to get off to good start this season.”

The 2018 Intrust Super Cup competition will kick off in the second week of March.
